US citizens do not need a passport to travel to Puerto Rico. If you are not already in Puerto Rico or one of the neighboring Virgin Islands, many commercial flights can take you to San Juan, PR. There are two options from the San Juan International Airport: connecting to a short flight to Vieques, or taking the ferry from
The most hassle-free option is by air. Several small airlines fly to Vieques from San Juan many times daily:
It may also be more cost effective to charter a flight if your group includes four or more people.
The alternative is the ferry from Fajardo. You will need to have ground transfer from the airport to the ferry for about
$80.00. Once at the dock, the ferry fare is $2 per person one way and it takes about 45 minutes to cross.
Once you arrive in Vieques, getting to Vista Linda is easy and quick. Although all the drivers on the island know Vista Linda by name, at your request our caretaker will be happy to meet you at the Vieques Airport and personally escort you to the property and provide a tour of the facilities.
If you choose to do drive yourself from the airport, here are directions to Vista Linda (click here for a map):
FROM THE AIRPORT:
Take a Left out of the airport parking lot. Follow Route 200 toward the W Hotel and pass the hotel on your left. Turn Right onto Route 201 and follow to the junction with Route 995. Turn Right onto Route 995 to the first driveway on the Right. Follow the driveway up to the gated entrance to Villa Vista Linda.
FROM THE FERRY:
Follow the terminal road to Route 200 and turn right toward the Airport onto Route 200. At the junction with Route 201 turn Left onto Route 201 and follow to the Junction with Route 995. Turn Right onto Route 995 to the first driveway on the Right. Follow the driveway up to the gated entrance to Villa Vista Linda.
Most of the beaches are accessible via bumpy dirt roads. We encourage all of our guests to arrange for a rental (such as a Jeep) in advance of your arrival. Many car rental agencies will drop the vehicle off for you at the airport or even at the Villa if you request. During the high season car rentals are in demand so we recommend making rental arrangements as soon as possible.
WHAT TO BRING:
Vieques is a Caribbean island with a relaxed, casual feel to it. We recommend you pack light and, if you are chartering a flight, ask them about any luggage restrictions. You do not need a passport to travel to Puerto Rico or Vieques.
2 pair of shorts and 2 tee shirts
Perhaps a sundress or skirt for dinner (although shorts are fine too)
Deet-free mosquito repellent (if you are going to bio-bay)
Comfortable flip-flops and/or some sort of water shoe
